Southern Cruisers Chapter 354 (Montreal)

Group Ride - April 18, 2004 - Eastern Ontario
Recommended Map: Eastern Ontario - MapArt Publishing

Total distance: (from Pointe-Claire) approx 250 km.

From Montreal take Autoroute 20 west (watch out for the radar trap coming off the bridge to L’Ile Perrot - ask me how I know!), take 20 all the way to exit 17. When you get to the first stop sign go left and continue on this unnumbered road running on the east side of the Riviere Desile until Saint-Polycarpe.

Crossover the bridge in Saint-Polycarpe and take the first right and continue along the west side of Riviere Desile until arriving at route 325. Turn right and head to Sainte-Justine-de-Newton.

Continue on 325 through Sainte-Justine and take a left turn at the sign to Alexandria, Ontario. After crossing the border you are on Ontario County Highway #10. Proceed to Alexandria.

In Alexandria turn left at the lights onto Highway 34 (south) until arriving at the Brown House Corner (the Brown House is a convenience store on your left). Turn right onto Highway #18.

After about 1 km you will pass the St. Raphaels Church Ruins on your left. Stop if you want, the gates may be open. Continue to the intersection with Highway #19, turn left, follow the sign to Williamstown.

In Williamstown turn right in the centre of town onto #17. (If you turn left at this point you are right beside the Raisin River Pub - drop by for their last bowl of chili.)

Take #17 along the north shore of the mighty Raisin River until arriving at a “T” intersection. Turn left onto #27 follow this road over MacGillivarys Bridge to #19.

Stay on this road as it follows the South Raisin River the road turns south at Grants Corners continue over the 401 and the CNR tracks until arriving at Highway #2. Turn left and follow this road for about 20 km along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, back over the 401 into Lancaster.

Cross over the tracks and Big Lukes is on your right.

After your ribs, you can return to Montreal by taking #2 east which turns into route 338 in Quebec and follow it all the way to Dorion and Autoroute 20.
